Canyon Forest Village... a bad idea! The Grand Canyon Chapter, Sierra Club thinks Canyon Forest Village is a very bad idea for two main reasons. The first is that the currently proposed 900-1000 rooms is only the beginning. They can, and almost certainly will, be back for their original 3600 rooms or more and nothing prevents it. More development in the surrounding area is likely to follow. All this in an area already over-developed. Second, we are convinced that economic pressures will drive CFV to mine the precious but much cheaper groundwater, even if their complicated and untested plan to import surface water from the Colorado River works. CFV claims their 'ironclad' water covenants prevent this from happening but the long history of land use litigation demonstrates that there is no such thing as a legal document that smart, expensive lawyers can't pick apart. We further believe that their covenants are full of holes, starting with their definition of 'emergency' use. Take a look at the covenants for yourself.
