Arizona Water Sentinels Data Page

Water Sentinels collect real data that is used to monitor changes to our rivers and to advocate for actions to protect them. The data collected is shared with the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality and other interested parties. Below are graphs depicting the data sets for the various constituents.

The Arizona Water Sentinels have been monitoring water quality and quantity on the Verde River since 2006. To help monitor the health of the river, establish solid baselines, and ascertain significant changes, we visit six sites along the river to collect water samples to test the levels of various constituents, make field observations, and measure the pH, dissolved oxygen and total dissolved solids concentrations in the river. We also monitor the river’s flow at two sites and obtain flow data from long-term gages at or near several sites. See our “State of the Verde“ and “Going With the Flow“ reports for further analyses of this data.

Our San Pedro project began in February 2011. We visit five sites along the river to collect water samples to test E. coli levels, make field observations, and measure the pH, dissolved oxygen, and total dissolved solids concentrations in the river. E. coli is of concern as wastewater effluent is used to recharge the San Pedro River. This is another great volunteer opportunity. No experience or expertise is required; we provide the training.
