NOW: water and wastewater; denial prohibited
Our Position: oppose
Bill Number: HB2416
Legislative Session: 2012 Legislative Session
HB2416 NOW: water and wastewater; denial prohibited (Stevens) will have a detrimental impact on efforts to develop cohesive water service area policies that balances the interest of current and future residents of Tucson and the obligations the City of Tucson has made to serve those outside the City boundaries.
Unfortunately, this bill defines the area where Tucson must serve water without any consideration of the infrastructure that is needed to serve the property or of what water resources are available. Furthermore, it appears to be special legislation to target Tucson and one particular area, Painted Hills, a 289- acre parcel of rocky, saguaro-studded hills adjacent to and west of Tucson in unincorporated Pima County.
This legislation is not in the greater public interest and will only muddy the waters relative to water service in a state that already has pretty muddy waters when it comes to water policies. Please reject this bill and allow the local communities to address this issue.
04/15/2012 - It seems to be dead, for now.
